To Whom It May Concern:

On behalf of 2009 Okinawa Traditional Karatedo World Tournament Executive Committee and the Prefecture of Okinawa, japan, it is my great pleasure to officially declare that the Okinawa Traditional Karatedo World Tournament will be held in Okinawa, Japan in August of 2009.

Okinawa prefecture, which was once known as the Ryukyu Kingdom, has a unique culture that developed through exchange with China and other Southeast Asian Countries. Karatedo and Kobudo were born out of this historical exchange of cultures from a mixture of traditional Okinawan Martial arts and those of neighbouring countries.

Karatedo and Kobudo promote not only physical strength, but also greatly contribute to the building of character through the incorporation of ethics such as respect and courtesy. Today, Karatedo and Kobudo are practiced by 50 million people in 178 countries worldwide.

The Okinawa Prefectural Government is making great efforts towards establishing Okinawa as a centre of international exchange and one of the measures being used to realize that goal is the expansion of Karatedo and Kobudo network.

The 2009 Okinawa Traditional Karatedo World Tournament is jointly held by the Okinawa Dentou Karatedo Shinkoukai (The Society for the Advancement of the Traditional Okinawa Karate) and the Okinawa Prefectural Government to promote and share original styles of Okinawa Karatedo and Kobudo with all the participants. I hope that the tournament participants will take this opportunity to deepen friendships with one another and contribute to the continuation and development of Okinawa Karatedo and Kobudo around the world.

I would like to welcome you to participate in this event. If you are interested, please take the time to review the enclosed documents about the tournament (pamphlet, competition rules & regulations, Application Form, ID Application Form, Hotel Information).
